2013 Year in Review

"What does the Ontario County Arts Council do?" we are often asked. Well, we have been very busy all year working with a variety of groups and putting together events. All efforts support our mission: to enrich the life of each individual as well as to enrich the community and its organizations and institutions.

Reviewing 2013

January: "Small Works, Big Ideas," an art exhibit held at the Phelps Art Center.

March: "Broadway by the Lake," a musical event held at the Inn on the Lake following with a donation to the Finger Lakes Chorale Program.

April: A donation was made to the Bristol Library for a display system.

May: "Celebrating the Irish," an event held at the Finger Lakes Gallery & Frame with refreshments served, storytelling, slide show, and music performed by the Almost Irish Band. This was accomplished in collaboration with the Kiwanis Club as part of "Celebrating Canandaigua Centennial." Also, donations were made by OCAC to the Downtown Flower Fund, bringing natural beauty to downtown for the summer.

June: The second annual "Finger Lakes Plein Air Competition" was held under our 501(c)(3) nonprofit charter. This competition is gaining in popularity and helping to brand Canandaigua as a fine arts destination.

July: OCAC members helped and contributed to the construction of the City float for the 4th of July Parade.

August: "Future of the Finger Lakes: A Young Artist Collaborative" was their 4th exhibit at the Vine Valley Community House. This group has put to good use the display panels donated to them by OCAC when we vacated the 65 Main Street location.

October: "The Spaghetti Opera," an annual musical event held at the Inn on the Lake. This year the event benefited the Cheshire Community Hall Project.

November: The unveiling of the "Seneca Family" sculpture which was made possible by a substantial donation by Dr. Dorothy Mariner, the past director of OCAC. Also each year, members of OCAC have contributed a decoration to "The Festival of Trees" at the Granger Homestead. This year was a mantle display.

December: "A Christmas Carol" enacted by Kim Tenreiro was presented at the Canandaigua National Bank.

We are looking forward to 2014. We encourage you to support us with your membership (click here for details) and attendance at our events.
